2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV—What We Know So Far

In January 2022, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Is this the all-electric pickup truck that entrepreneurs and weekend warriors have been waiting for? According to the information released so far, it is.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Design

Unlike a standard pickup truck—where the cab and the bed are separate structures—the 2024 Silverado EV’s chassis is fully integrated. It uses the new Ultium platform unique to GM’s electric vehicles, such as the Hummer EV. The front of the truck is short, maximizing driver visibility and legroom for rear passengers. Only the Crew Cab configuration will be offered.

The big attraction of the 2024 Silverado EV is its Midgate bulkhead, similar to the previous Avalanche model. A folding hatch opens up the bench space, increasing the cargo area from 5′11″ to 10′10″.

Engine

Two electric motors offer a breathtaking performance. The entry-level WT trim produces 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-line RST trim delivers 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque and rushes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds. Both trims offer all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and a multi-flex tailgate and panoramic roof window as available options.

Utility-wise, the WT trim can hold 1,200 lb of gear in its cargo area and tow up to 8,000 lb. Upgrade to the RST trim for 1,300 lb and 10,000 lb capacity, respectively. The addition of a possible Towing Package could increase the towing capacity to 20,000 lb.

All-Electric Range

The huge 200 kWh battery, which is four times larger than that found in most current electric vehicles, would allow a range of up to 643 km on a single charge. Ten minutes at one of the new ultra-fast charging stations should be enough to recover 160 km of range.

Availability and Price

The Silverado EV2024 would first be offered in a bare-bones WT trim during spring 2023, priced at around $54,000 (US$42,000), followed by a fully equipped RST trim for about $137,000 (US$107,000) later that year. Intermediate LT, LTZ, Trail Boss and High Country trims will follow.
