2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV—An Overview

The Equinox compact SUV is Chevrolet’s second best-selling model—so expectations are high for its all-electric version. Here’s a rundown of the official information available so far, along with some predictions from the automotive community.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Design

The Equinox received a styling update for its 2022 model year, featuring a new grille, redesigned headlights and a more dynamic rear end. Early images of the 2024 Equinox EV suggest the evolution of this concept, integrating futuristic lines against the canvas of a classic crossover. The interior promises a technological environment with a large centre console and digital instrument panel.

Engine

No official details are yet available on the powertrain. However, it’s expected that all-wheel drive will be available, which would likely involve two electric motors and more capability than the 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque found on the existing Chevrolet Bolt EV.

All-Electric Range

The 2024 Equinox EV uses GM’s new Ultium platform, which offers great flexibility in battery configuration. We expect a range of around 480 km (300 miles), but a luxury long-range model could also be offered.

Availability and Price

The compact SUV has an estimated starting price of $38,000 (US$30,000), which would make it one of the most economical all-electric vehicles on the market and would qualify for federal and provincial incentives. Steve Hill, Chevrolet Vice President, says in a press release that “providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest-volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is expected in the fall of 2023, in LT and RS trims (with a starting price of approximately $51,000 [US$40,000]).
